Photos of race day 2008 will be posted soon!
Each June the South Chicago Wheelmen bicycle racing club
takes to the streets of Riverview for their timed event. In a blaze of vivid color the racers fly by historic homes and the Kankakee River as they strive for first place. The adrenaline of the riders and spectators charges the atmosphere.
What is a criterium?
A criterium is a type of bike race, usually less thank 5k in length, ran on closed-off city streets . Race length can be determined by a total time or a number or
laps, in which case the number of remaining laps is calculated as the race progresses. Generally the event's duration (commonly one hour) is shorter than that of a traditional road race, which can last several hours or even days. However, the average speed and intensity are appreciably higher in a criterium.
Comments from South Chicago Wheelmen.
"This popular USCF race was on the same course as last year. This year (June 2007) we received additional support and premiums from the Cobb Park area Riverview Historic District - and they threw a great party!"
