There are so many new terms and words used now that you have gout. It can be confusing because you need to figure out what all of these words mean and how it can have an effect on you and your body. Some of these words are purines and uric acid. Your doctor probably has told you to watch your purines. You’re probably thinking O.K, what are purines? Let’s see if we are able to break it down without all of the medical words where everyday people can try and understand it.

Purines are found in all our body’s cells. It’s also found in all foods. When your cells die and get recycled thru your body the purines also get broken down too. When your purines have been broken down, then uric acid is made. When your uric acid keeps accumulating and not breaking down like it is supposed to, then uric acid crystals will form. They are not being broken down and they accumulate and form on joints and organs. All this forms and this is where your gout starts.

It all seems confusing. It’s pretty basic. You have got to watch the purines in your food. You don’t want to consume high uric acid foods that are high in purines. You want to restrict in-taking these foods to control the uric acid in your body. When the levels of the purines are high, then the uric acid is forming on your joints. If you have recently been diagnosed with gout, then you know what that means. This means you are going to be in intense agony and maybe stuck in the house and can’t walk without being in the pain.

You are going to need to avoid all this if you can. There are numerous foods you can still enjoy. Essentially, it will help you to get healthier and control your gout. In time, you’ll get used to what you can eat and what you’ve got to avoid. This is something that you will have to probably deal with your entire life. There is no magic pill to take away purines or uric acid. There are many places you can research that may tell you what foods are high in purines. What you need to avoid and what you can most likely safely eat. Do not simply stop enjoying everything that you love. Take baby steps in this journey. You will learn what you can safely eat and enjoy and what will send your purines up and set your gout off.

Talk with others that suffer from gout. Folks who’ve suffered from gout can give you information to help you out. It’s better to ask someone for guidance on anything that has or is going thru what you’re going thru now. There are many folks that are afflicted with gout. You would be shocked how many people which are being diagnosed as having gout. Search some of these people out and ask for their guidance on how they began to cope with gout. You will get thru this. It’s a learning process which will take time.
